#249: Green Center

• Was started by Mr. Aubrey Green in the 1930s; he built his home on the property in 1932.
• The property had an orchard, which even at that time, was unusual.
• Most of the property was purchased from the city of University City (after Green's death in 1995), and was named Kaufman Park after its former mayor
• The house has been rumored to be haunted.
• It is currently being used as a place for environmental and garden enthusiasts, as well as a laboratory.

The cake on the front porch. I'm curious about the lions...

The cake, done by multi-cake artist Megan Rieke, is what I would probably expect, to be a green one along with a 'green theme':

NOW: The cake was sold by the Green Center (perhaps to help raise money for the place), and it was sold to Chris Davidson, who works at the Missouri School for the Blind. With the help of multi-cake artist Rich Brooks it was re-painted and it was placed at the Missouri School for the Blind.

#245: Webster University

Here's a cake that I had to go back to - since last time it was surrounded by a fence due to construction. Luckily I was able to get it on my last caking round. Whenever you get this cake, I say....good luck on finding a place to park!

About Webster University:

• It is a non-profit, private, non-denominational independent university.
• In 2014, about 22,000 students enrolled there. They came from all 50 states!
• Founded in 1915 by the Sisters of Loretto as Loretto College, as an all-girls school.
• The first male students were enrolled in 1962.
• Webster's mascot is a Gorlok, which is a made-up creature with many features
• There are other numerous spin-off Webster campuses all over the world, including in Switzerland and Mexico

#211: Shrine of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne

And the last part of downtown St. Charles which has a cake location is right on the Lewis & Clark Trail, or Highway 94. This one is at the Shrine of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne.

#181: CIC@CET-Cortex

So what is CIC@CET-Cortex? Let's start with the Cortex Corporation, which is located on Forest Park, a bit outside the downtown area. According to its website, the Cortex Innovation Community is home to a 200-acre innovation hub and technology district integrated between Forest Park and Central West End. Basically, the company is all about creating technology jobs and making sure St. Louis is on top of everything.

Created in 2002, this was a start-up of connecting entrepreneurs, investors and the city's resources. The company is also involved in biomedical research and has partnered with universities including UMSL and SLU, as well as healthcare centers like BJC. They call themselves the 'premier hub' of St. Louis.

As of this writing, I'm not sure what the CIC@CET is all about.

Is this our future, like they planned? We shall see.

#122: St. Anthony's Medical Center

 *PUBLIC VOTE WINNER*

• Has been in business, 'serving Christ' (as its Facebook page explains) for more than 130 years.
• Named after St. Anthony of Padua.
• Was named a Top 100 Hospital in 2005 (no publication, source or ranking was given, as this was an event on their Facebook timeline)

#69: Lafayette Park

• Named after Frenchman Marques de Lafayette, who was a volunteer under George Washington in the American Revolution.
• St. Louis' oldest park; founded in 1838
• Also known to be one of the oldest parks west of the Mississippi River.
• Park consists of walking/jogging trails, a duck pond, playground and a gazebo for special events
• There are at least six other U.S. cities that have a Lafayette Park, including Washington, DC and San Francisco.

The park is surrounded by Lafayette Square, which was given its own cake in late June (a month after I got this one).
