#78: The Lodge at Des Peres

The city of Des Peres, founded in 1934, was at one time believed to be Missouri's first white settlement - going back to the early 1700s. Des Peres translates to 'of the Fathers' in French. The city got its name from the river, which crosses south St. Louis. The rivers' tributaries, Deer Creek and Two Mile Creek, run through the city. Animal-rights activist and wife of Burt Ward (Robin on the 1966 television version of Batman) Tracy Posner is originally from here.

I'm not really sure what makes the Lodge very iconic, unless it is the sole location where its residents come for gym and fun purposes. At least, that's what they're making it sound like.Whatever it may be, the city does have a mission for the Lodge (according to its website): bring our community together in our facilities & parks to inspire healthy lifestyles through high-quality programs, extraordinary customer service & constant efforts of improvement. It is also for the protection of our natural, environmental, physical and natural resources.
